How To Draw Garfield And Friends

The One to Have
The Authoritative Work on Mental Training
Recall this book for publishing, it's a GEM!

Garfield ReduxIt's fun to sit back, read, and take a stroll down memory lane with some of the characters we haven't seen in a while in the recent strips. There's Lyman (Odie's master), Arlene (Garfield's sometime girlfriend), Nermal (the world's cutese kitten), and the veterinarian (the only human being to go out with Jon more than once).
"The Second Garfield Treasury" is a collection of Sunday comic strips from July 1980 through August 1982. In this collection you will see the evolution of the drawing of the characters into what we see today.
So make a pan of lasagna, sit back, and watch everyone's favorite cat gulp it down right before your eyes.
Back Again In Living Color!Recommended.
This has got to be the best treasury yet.

The Best Way In!They give not only the story, but a wonderful sense of the theatrical - you read and enjoy a visual sensation as well as the speech of Shakespeare (all the words 'spoken' are taken directly from Shakespeare's scripts).
Romeo and Juliet, for example, sweats in the heat of Verona. There is a fantastic image of wasps fighting! You go directly into the story - and moral considerations are there.
The pictures support the text well- giving yet another dimension to the book.
Forget Lamb!
I've used these stories in the classroom for many years now - partly because young people (11 through to much older!) relate to them -but also because I really enjoy re-reading them.
(There is a whole set of Abridged Shakspeare by Garfield too - and wonderful Animations done with Russian animators!)
A Doorway to a New WorldI had supposed the Laurence Olivier was some pompous old fart with a plum in his mouth. He is ELECTRIC. His Hamlet is a study in depression. His voice in "To be or not to be" is scarcely audible but carries so much emotion.
In all, I watched 22 different plays - my favourites, Richard 11 and Hamlet, in several different versions. I followed the BBC series which uses the same actors from one play to the next so that the Duke of Gloucester in one play is played by the same actor who later becomes Richard 11 in the next play.
Leon Garfield's story-telling with its light touch of irony and its perfect choice of words opened a door that I had assumed was marked "Other people only". Garfield wrote marvellous children's book and I've read them all but these books are the best of his achievements and they've made a big difference to my life.
Excellent choice for English teachers!

A realy good book!
A Kind of Insane Charles Dickens
Of Bostock and Harris and other things ....It's a comic tale of two troublesome boys, Bostock and Harris, from Dr Bunion's Academy in England in the early 1800s, who decide as an experiment to leave Harris's baby sister, the young Adelaide of the title, exposed to the elements just like the babies of ancient Sparta were (this is just the kind of thing kids pick up from history lessons). They expect a she-wolf to come along to suckle her, but instead .....
The book features a wonderful cast of funny characters, my favourites being the scheming and devious Major Alexander, who can't look anyone in the eye, and the awful enquiry agent, Mr Selwyn Raven, who sees a spider web of sin in the world and notes it all down on ever-increasing bits of paper.
There is adventure, romance, and some very funny happenings in a delighfully told tale that will have you smiling your way through. Very highly recommended for all readers.

Tartabull's Throw by Henry GarfieldMy own dreams with alternatives to my reality have sometimes haunted me beyond sleep. They are my "should have..., would have..., could have..." dreams. Henry Garfield has put that type of dream into the very words of his novel. Fact and fiction are awesomely merged by this author to create a page-turner of good entertainment. By the way, I'm a "teenager" with 40+ years of experience!
TARTABULL'S THROW Hits A Grand SlamIs the runner safe at home plate? Yes. Is he out? Yes. Is Cyrus, as Garfield says, 'The best left-handed second baseman in Wisconsin,' called up to The Show by the Chicago White Sox? Yes. Is he an error-prone player who can barely hit his weight and is released by the low minor league Beloit Turtles? Yes. But how can all of this be?
Believe me, Garfield pulls it off. If you like baseball, suspense, science fiction'or merely just want a rollicking tale'you can't miss TARTABULL'S THROW.

Behind The First, Garfield's Most Pleasing Treasury. When I saw The Tenth Garfield Treasury at the book star, I was expecting more of the same in terms of the logos and such. No. I was very pleased to buy this book. The logos are there, as well as the first little square. The color is great, and easily show off how much the graphics have improved. The book is well desighned. Garfield's jokes are still very funny, and since the strips are from his latest (and funnier) books, Garfield Throws His Wieght Around, Garfield Life To The Fullest, and Garfield Feeds The Kitty, all Garfield fans will be howling as they read it. It's re-read value is off the charts. I've read this book more than twenty times and I still laugh my head off each time.
Jim Davis is a very talented cartoonist to be able to keep Garfield alive for more then twenty-four years. Garfield is always cute, and very rarely are his strips flat or un-funny (which was the specialty of Peanuts).
Bottom line: The Tenth Garfield Treasury is a must buy for all fans of Garfield or someone who just needs to laugh or kick off a depression. Highley recommended.
Great collection of sunday comics!
Better than the other Treasuries

Explore the world of lucid dreaming in this excellent book. The first half of the book explores how many cultures throughout the world have used dreams for everything from healing to precognition. It also shows how many well known writers, inventors, etc, have gotten inspiration to create from their dreams.
The second half of the book explains step-by-step how you can gain control of your dreams and actually direct the action. It also shows you how to keep a dream diary so that you can be more aware of your dream world even while you are awake.
One great thing about this book is that it does not get into dream interpretation (which can be sooo subjective). It just makes you aware of the power that you have over your dreams and gives you some good ideas about using that power.

This is a truly great book.
